Fruity Cocktail Ideas: Kumquat Margarita Recipe

March 4, 2021

This Kumquat Margarita is guaranteed to transform your winter blues into spring vibes.  Scroll down for the delicious and refreshing recipe!

After recently making a beautiful Kumquat Simple Syrup, I knew that I had to create a Kumquat Margarita Recipe. The candied fruit in the simple syrup elevates this beautiful cocktail.  While the drink takes less than five minutes to assemble, you will need to make the Kumquat Simple Syrup in advance.  Click here for the recipe.

Even though the kumquat simple syrup is the star ingredient in this margarita, there are a couple of other key elements that bring this boozy libation together.  Freshly grated ginger complements this kumquat concoction beautifully.  The ginger adds a subtle but spicy heat.  Prosecco is the second integral part in this drink.  The Italian sparkling wine adds a delectable effervescence to the Kumquat Margarita.  The tequila and prosecco combination may seem odd, but it works delightfully in this beverage.  I used La Marca Prosescco in this recipe, however, you can use the prosecco of your choice.

If you have read some of my other Margarita Recipes, you already know that I am a huge fan of using a reposado or añejo tequila.  A reposado tequila is aged two months to one year in oak. In my opinion, this tequila is perfect for margaritas.  Añejo tequila is aged for one-to-three years in oak. Although añejo is a sipping tequila, I do like to use it in my cocktails for its elevated flavors and rich aromas.  Using a higher quality tequila will always result in a more sophisticated experience.  Now that I have shared a little about all of the essential ingredients in this Kumquat Margarita, let’s get to the recipe!

Prep Time 5 mins
Servings 1 8 oz cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Kumquat simple syrup
  • ½ tsp Freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp Lime juice ½ lime
  • 2 oz Tequila reposado
  • 1 cup Ice
  • 4 oz Prosecco
  • 2 tbsp Margarita salt
  • 2 Fresh kumquats cut in half garnish
  • 1 Lime slice garnish
  • 1 Lime wedge

Instructions

  • I like to present this cocktail in an old fashioned glass, but you can also serve it in a highball or traditional margarita glass. Moisten the rim of the glass of your choice with a lime wedge. Salt the rim.
  • To a shaker add: kumquat simple syrup, freshly grated ginger, lime juice, tequila reposado and ice. In addition to these ingredients, add a spoonful of the indulgent candied kumquats to the shaker. Shake all of the ingredients for 15 seconds. Pour the drink into the salted cocktail glass.
  • Add 4 oz of Prosecco to the cocktail. Gently stir using a cocktail stirrer or small spoon. Garnish the refreshment with a lime slice and kumquat halves. Now you are ready to sip and enjoy this inviting libation. Cheers!

I hope that you enjoy this Kumquat Margarita as much as I do!   If you plan on making a cocktail for one, I recommend that you buy a single 187 ml bottle of La Marca Prosecco.  This bottle size yields close to 8 oz of Prosecco, which is enough for two Kumquat Margaritas.   If you plan on making this recipe for several guests, consider buying the 750 ml bottle of La Marca Prosecco.

If you are a fan of unique flavors like this Kumquat Margarita, you will also enjoy my Tamarind Margarita recipe.  This margarita is unlike anything you have tried.  Click here for the recipe!

I am a huge fan of lychee martini’s. @red_thest I am a huge fan of lychee martini’s. @red_thesteakhouse in Miami makes a great one. It pairs beautifully with their signature Four Cheese 🧀 Macaroni & Cheese. Our waiter suggested that we add lobster 🦞 and it’s was maginifique!

I can’t decide what I like more, Cocktails 🍸 I can’t decide what I like more, Cocktails 🍸 or Cake 🍰? After years of driving by Maximillians Grill & Wine Bar on Chapel Hill Rd. in Cary, I finally went with my friend @ejdevita for a Taurus Celebration Dinner. Everything was fantastic. If you are a Martini-lover, try the Max Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives 🫒. My fellow Taurus introduced me to Martinis on the Rocks and I don’t plan to have a Martini shaken or stirred anymore. Maximillians makes all of their gelatos and desserts in house. If the Coconut Cake is on the menu - order it! It’s been one month since I had a slice of this dessert and I am still dreaming about it. The Pei Mussels are another must. Focaccia accompanies the mussels to soak up the delicious seafood broth. Other notable mentions are the Voodoo Of The Day and the Double Cut Pork Chop. @maximilliansgrillandwine menu is farm to table so dishes may change. If it’s not too hot out, grab a table on their patio. I do recommend you make a reservation - to guarantee your spot. Maximillians is located on 8314 Chapel Hill Rd. Cary, NC 27513.

8369 Creedmoor Rd. location in Raleigh after work last week and sampled their delicious plant-based menu items. While I am not Vegan, I do follow a diet rich in vegetables and fruits. Some of the food I sampled included the Banana Toast Crunch, PVC Tiki Burger, Chipotle Bowl and Novid Orange juice. I could not stop eating the PVC Tiki Burger. It is made of potatoes, peas, carrots and spices topped with lettuce, tomato, avocado, microgreens, chipotle mayo & honee mustard. In addition to the flavors, I like that I could see the veggies in this burger. It wasn’t a patty of mashed or compressed vegetables. I also enjoyed the Chipotle Bowl Salad made of romaine, black beans, avocado, quinoa, pico cashew dressing and cilantro dressing. Do not leave @purevegancafe with out trying an order of Sweet Potato Buffalo Ranch Fries! Make sure you bring a friend or two to sample these fries because you may end up eating the whole basket like I did 😂. Special thanks to Pure Vegan Cafe for hosting me and @bitesofbullcity for coordinating my visit.
